Summary

1. Paul, a ship's engineer, goes ashore in Lisbon and lodges in a waterfront hotel where he falls in love with the maid. Alienated from his world and seeking an elusive freedom, Paul roams the narrow alleyways of the "white city" with a super 8 camera. He sends the films as well as news of his love for two women to his estranged wife who awaits him in an orderly apartment in Switzerland.
