Pforzheimer copy: Formerly owned by the 20th century English novelist and essayist John Fowles; with his bookplate, his pasted-in printed label reading, "One of the weird and pretty fragments that washed up on my beach," and three computer printer labels used to secure the front fly-leaf, apparently adhered by Fowles. -- Previously owned by George Blackmore of Exmouth, with his ownership stencil. -- Bound second of two posthumous Strutt works; with: The test of guilt. London: Appleyards, 1808. Bound together subsequent to publication. -- Bound in contemporary half calf with marbled boards and gilt spine-titling.
