Description
  1. 1 print : etching, hand-colored; 31 x 24 cm.
Summary
  1. Scenes from a theatrical work, the title of which may be roughly translated as The poacher, Lucifer, and the tenant [?], comprising a large central scene surrounded by six smaller images. In the central scene, the figure of Lucifer, with batlike wings, bursts from an upstairs window, upsetting a ladder and a man in eighteenth-century costume, who tumbles to the earth. The smaller images depict (clockwise from upper left) a dancing couple; a female dancer; a man in Pierrot costume and a naked black man with a club; a giant clutching the Pierrot figure in one hand; two acrobats or wrestlers wearing animal skins; and a musician with an outsize head carrying a trumpet, bellows, and sword.
