Summary
  1. Discussion of character dancing, dancing character roles, and dancing roles that require characterzation. In discussion 1 John Meehan talks with Roman Zhurbin and Kristi Boone about performing Swan lake (Act III, Czardas), essential elements needed to become a character dancer, the difference between dancing folk and classical ballet, and changing back and forth from character shoes to pointe shoes. Discussion 2 begins with Misty Copeland talking about her background and childhood, creating the Firebird character, working with Alexei Ratmansky, how the steps are different for each of the three lead Firebirds, Reid Anderson talks about Onegin and working with John Cranko, auditioning and joining the Stuttgart Ballet in 1969, dancing in Onegin, how Cranko created works and what he looked for in dancers, and coaching and working on Onegin with American Ballet Theatre (ABT). Discussion 3 focuses on The dream by Sir Frederick Ashton along with several slides. In discussion 4 Meehan talks to Roman Zhurbin about his character roles in ABT and discussion 5 concludes the program with Meehan talking about the final scene being performed, Swan lake (Act III, Princesses) by Kevin McKenzie.
