- Description
- 2 audio discs : digital, mono; 4 3/4 in.
- Summary
- The interview takes places on two days. The 1st disc has sound problems: there is constant humming and 19 minutes into the recording, from the middle of track 4 to track 10, humming is very loud and the conversation is practically inaudible. During the 1st part of the interview, Lunt speaks about theater direction (and mentions a few directors); the reason he and Fontanne go on the road unlike many other famous actors ; his reaction to long runs and his opinion of them, and such. The next day Fontanne joins her husband and together they discuss the following: their team work; their method of working and learning their roles; their high opinion of Stanislavsky's Method and Method acting in general; actors Marlon Brando, Eli Wallach, Maureen Stapleton, and Ben Gazzara; the combination of technique and imagination in acting; diction and clarity of the voice; the importance of experience; various nuances of their trade; the importance of breath control; their approach to the selection of scripts; the process of building a part; stage skills; stage fright and ability to control nervousness; concentration and distraction during performances; comedy versus drama; talent to completely identify with the character, and more.
