  1. Disc 1, May 11, 2012 (approximately 57 minutes). Christine Wright speaks with Deborah Jowitt about her childhood overseas and the events that led to her decision to be a dancer when she returned to the U.S.; her discipline and commitment; studying with Maggie Black; her first professional performance; moving to New York City as a teenager with Black as her guardian; her first modern dance performance and the realization that modern dance was where her strengths lay; working with Kazuko Hirabayashi; the economic situation for dancers in New York during the 1970s; taking Graham technique class with Mary Hinkson; Lar Lubovitch and joining Lar Lubovitch [Dance] Company; her favorite dances in the company's repertory; the dancers she worked with there; her intentions and experience as a performer.

Christine Wright speaks with Deborah Jowitt about the trajectory of her ankle injury including its worsening after being treated with cortisone and its final catastrophic manifestation during a performance; her decision to stop dancing with Lubovitch; subsequent projects with Blondell Cummings and Ohad Naharin; beginning to teach; studying with Kathy Grant.

Christine Wright speaks with Deborah Jowitt about the development of her teaching style; her perspective on the mind/body relationship; her effort to reach different types of students in different ways; the need for dancers to balance knowledge of functional anatomy with more abstract conceptual tools; working with students' injuries while teaching a group class; her therapeutic one-on-one work with dancers; more on her evolving approach to teaching; her interest in learning about and utilizing breathing technique; her interest in and differentiation of the mind and brain and her experience with Buddhist meditation; her use of ballet technique as part of a versatile skill foundation for her students; more recent performing experiences including a seated solo, and a duet with Dirk Platzek; how she relates to music and her admiration for her accompanists.
