1. Facsimile edition of Giuseppe Maria Orlandini's opera (1721) in the version by Johann Mattheson (Hamburg 1723), who retained the original arias, translated the recitatives into German and provided new musical settings for them, and added a few pieces of his own composition.
2. Reproduces the manuscript from the Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin - Preussischer Kulturbesitz (shelfmark Mus. ms. 16370).
3. Includes the original libretto by Agostino Piovene in Italian, printed as text, pages lxxiii-xciv; and Johann Mattheson's adaptation of the libretto in mixed German and Italian, printed as text, pages xcvii-cxxi.
4. Preface contains an essay 'Un Nerone veramente tragico' by Francesco Giuntini in Italian with a summary in English, and an essay 'Nero in Hamburg' by Reinhard Strohm in English, with a summary in Italian.
