  1. As part of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Oral History Project, author Sally Placksin discusses her book, "American women in jazz : 1900 to the present : their words, lives, and music." She talks about many of the artists featured in the book, including Abbey Lincoln, Melba Liston, Bessie Smith, Mamie Smith, Mary Lou Williams, the International Sweethearts of Rhythm, and others, and discusses their role in shaping the history and development of Jazz.
