The program is focused on the music of Leonard Bernstein, whose upcoming festival of concerts is announced throughout the broadcast. The host and the two commentators examine the works of the composer (who is expected to be present during the festival) and relate experiences from their personal and professional association with him. Some other brief excerpts of music (from Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti and Symphony no. 2, Foss's Baroque variations, Strauss's waltz) are included as a tool to clarify and reinforce certain assertions and interpretations.
