Biography

1. Composer, author and screenwriter Mary Rodgers Guettel (1931-2014) was the elder daughter of composer Richard Rodgers. Her works include the musical Once upon a mattress (1959), The Mad Show (1966) and the children's book and movie Freaky Friday (1972; 1976 and 2003). The mother of 5 children, Guettel also served as chair of the Juilliard School board from 1994 to 2001, as well as serving on the Dramatists Guild Council, the board of ASCAP and other organizations. She died of heart failure at age 83.
