Summary
  1. Documentary on the Federal Theatre Project, a New Deal program created to fund theater artists, variety performers, and other entertainment professionals. The project lasted from 1935 to 1939, and helped launch the careers of a number of playwrights, directors, and actors who would become prominent in the worlds of theater and motion pictures, including Arthur Miller, Orson Welles, John Houseman, and Elia Kazan. Includes archival footage of productions, specially staged recreations of Federal Theatre plays, historic photos, and excerpts from interviews with participants, historians, and commentators.
