Summary

1. Rudy Kousbroek and Gerard Reve decided to correspond with each other at the end of the seventies. They both lived in France at that time. The atheist Kousbroek asked Reve if his faith was really serious to him. Genuine curiosity; both knew deep gloom, but they did not find comfort in the same thing. About religion, about sex, about writing and writers - in his letters Kousbroek is candid and mercilessly honest, also about personal problems, and courageous, for example when he confronts Reve with his evasive behavior. Despite the mutual good intentions, the correspondence stopped quite abruptly.
