- Summary
- This collection of essays explores the diverse ways in which Netherlandish art and luxury goods permeated the artistic landscape of Renaissance Spain. Covering a broad range of approaches and perspectives, the book includes essays on alabaster sculpture, painting, tapestry, architectural design, carved altarpieces, prints and mathematical instruments. Through the lens of both Netherlandish and Spanish actors (artists, patrons, collectors, merchants and other intermediaries), special attention is paid to local cultures of collecting and display. Together, the contributors provide a fascinating and multifaceted view of the reciprocal relationships between the Low Countries and Spain in the fifteenth, sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. With contributions by Maite Barrio Olano, Ion Berasain Salvarredi, Iain Buchanan, Krista De Jonge, Raymond Fagel, Noelia García Pérez, Dirk Imhof, Nicola Jennings, Ethan Matt Kavaler, Jesús Muñiz Petralanda, Eduardo Lamas-Delgado, Abigail Newman, Stephanie Porras, Antonia Putzger, Koenraad Van Cleempoel, Paul Vandenbroeck and Elena Vázquez Dueñas.
