  2. Handel composed this work in 1746 on a libretto by Thomas Morell. The work was influenced by the Jacobite rebellion going on in Britain at the time. The work was premiered in 1747.
  3. Contains the version of the first performance in 1747 with the additional choruses and arias performed in the 1758/59 season.
  4. English libretto by Thomas Morell; German text by Johann Joachim Eschenburg and Felix Loy.
