Summary

1. This documentary charts the rehearsal process of William Shakespeare's King Lear, as staged by veteran actor/director John Houseman and the touring troupe he co-founded, the Acting Company. The program proceeds chronologically from early readings to opening night, and demonstrates how initially tentative interpretations develop into polished performances. As the physical elements (i.e. costume, lighting, props and stage movements) are arranged, Houseman is on hand to help interpret the scenes and aid the actors.
