Summary
  1. Reverend Dr. Barbara L. King was born on August 26, 1930 in Houston, Texas. Raised as a member of Antioch Baptist Church, King discovered her spiritual orientation at an early age. King earned her B.A. degree in sociology from Texas Southern University and her M.S.W. degree from Atlanta University. She founded the Barbara King School of Ministry in 1971, and served as its president. She also founded the Hillside Chapel and Truth Center, Inc. in Atlanta. Her ministry was the first African American New Thought affiliate to establish a sister church in South Africa in 1994. King authored several books, including Piddlin for the Soul, Love Your Body Temple and What is a Miracle? King served as the first non-psychiatrist director of the Emory Mental Health Center. Recognized in numerous publications, King was also honored as the first woman enstooled as a chief at Assin Nsuta, Ghana in 2001.
