- Description
- 71 items (2 cubic ft., 1 box); 26 x 21 cm or smaller.
- Summary
- The collection mainly depicts aspects of the professional life of author Alex Haley from the late 1960s to the 1980s, consisting of studio portraits of Haley, probably used for publicity purposes; group portraits and candid shots showing Haley at events; views of Haley's visit with Israeli President Ephraim Katzir, in Jerusalem (1977); and publicity photographs for the television series "Roots: the Next Generations" (1979). Haley's personal life is limited to a friend's family snapshots.
- Also included are contact sheets of football player/actor Jim Brown probably used for Haley's 1968 Playboy interview of Brown; studio portraits and contact sheets of a teenage girl and fan (Tanya Turtle?) possibly used for an acting resume (1983); candid shots of Haley associate Anthony Dessalines meeting Haitian leader Jean-Claude Duvalier (ca. early 1980s); and a view of Patrick Morelli's 1978 sculpture "Behold," based on the infant raising scene from "Roots." Of note are composite images of Haley's ancestors and the actors portraying them in "Roots: the Next Generations,"
