Summary
  1. Mariana has left her career-minded husband Viceroy Friedrich, and lives in a convent with Isabella. When Friedrich arrests Isabella's brother Claudio for immorality, his friend Luzio goes to her and implores her to ask the Viceroy for mercy. The Viceroy agrees, but only if Isabella will sleep with him. She agrees, but hatches a plan to send Mariana in her place.
