- Summary
- Matéria Escura (Dark Matter) comprises a selection of the beautiful large photographic images of the Pernambuco artist, living in São Paulo, Manoel Veiga. The black and white photographs, printed on canvas, with special technique that the artist mastered, revive the three great master of realism and chiaroscuro Caravaggio (1571-1610), Velazquez and Rembrandt in its dimension and depth. In the series Dark Matter, Veiga intrest falls in Caravagio spatial dimensions. The textiles that involve the figures, the objects, etc. acquire a connotation of the cosmic fabric. The title refers to a new type of matter that will not interact with light. Its presence is inferred by the gravitational effect it causes on the visible matter. When we transfer this reasoning into the works of this visual artist, we find that Manoel Veiga's Dark Matter can be inferred from his depiction of the curvature of the textiles.
