Description
  1. 6 videocassettes (60 min.) : sound, color; 1/2 in.
Summary
  1. A short historical review of this subject mentions the Greek mathematician Euclid (fl. 300 B.C.), René Descartes (1637), Georg Riemann (1854), and C.F. Gauss (around 1900). The various geometric curves formed by the intersection of a plane with a right circular cone at various angles are defined and their equations in a Cartesian plane derived.
  2. The last videocassette discusses today's applications in sound and light reflections: telescopes, headlights of automobiles, the sonic boom of the jet plane, the trajectory in the space program, etc.
