Summary
  1. The young peasants Juan and Juanita wish to get married, but their idyllic tropical island is swept up in war fever generated by arms dealer Mr. Jones. Ruinous taxes are levied to pay for the weapons, causing Juan to lose his cow (his means of support) and forcing Juanita to resort to prostitution. Juan is sentenced to death for resistance, but his life is saved when none of the new weapons works properly. The threat of war dissipates as Mr. Jones flees, and Juan and Juanita are able to settle down.
