- Summary
- Memoirs of a Jew born in Riga in 1924. Pp. 83-143 describe his experiences in the Holocaust, including life in the ghettos of Riga: the big ghetto, liquidated in December 1941, and the small ghetto, where he worked for two years. Michelson was then sent to the concentration camps of Kaiserwald, Stutthof, and Magdeburg. His mother was deported during one of the early roundups in the ghetto; his father disappeared from the small ghetto. A relative, Artur Keilman, was the "Judenrat" official responsible for social services in the ghetto. After liberation by Russians at the Elbe, Michelson spent months in the hospital; he eventually immigrated to the USA.
