Summary
  1. Zelinsky-Wibbelt, who heads the Lexicalization in Discourse project at Hanover U. in Germany, explains that this volume treats the communication of conceptual structures within a cognitive linguistic framework. Thirteen contributions investigate aspects of the linguistic processes involved in understanding metaphors and figures of speech in information transfer; intercultural communication; and "translation" of specialist concepts for lay audiences, as in a case study of the misreporting of science. A corollary goal is to reconcile cognitive and analytic methodologies and theories toward more holistic theories of human cognition. Annotation (c)2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com).
