- Summary
- An exhibition of the video art of Juan Downey (b. Chile, 1940- d, New York, 1993) beginning with his 1973 Trans America work. Juan Downey distinguished himself from other New York artists of the 1970s because he was Chilean (by way of Washington, D.C., Paris and Spain). He became a master of the video medium before his early death in 1993. His videos, maps and installations offer a diasporic perspective of an experience of coming and going, a real or metaphoric journey between two or more places, describing processes of migration, translation and instability as articulators of identity.
