Gay & Lesbian “FunMap,” Manhattan
One side of this foldable map covers Manhattan up to 90th Street, and the other focuses on the Greenwich Village neighborhood. It includes 45 numbered establishments, each accompanied by a small advertisement. Notably, this is the first map to mention HIV/AIDS in its content, with an HIV public service announcement and a list of resources such as an AIDS Gay Men’s Health Crisis hotline. The map continues a tradition of directories, address books, and guides that gay men produced in the face of censorship and discriminatory laws.
