The exhibition reflects three significant themes in which the 2019 Teen Curators developed as they delved deep into the works presented in Viewfinders — how women see themselves, how women see the world and how they capture joy. The different women presented in the book and exhibition offer a unique perspective that has been ignored by mainstream media. Femmeotography: The Gaze Shifted continues to celebrate the creative minds of these women by reviewing and responding to the work 33 years after the publishing of Moutoussamy-Ashe’s book, which includes the Teen Curators’ own adaptations and creations.
