Set model for the 1997 revival of Annie
Kenneth Foy was a scenic designer for theatre, opera, dance, and the circus from 1965 to 2014. He worked for the Metropolitan Opera for more than two decades, and regularly designed for Broadway and Broadway tours. In 1997 he caught the attention of the technical theatre world when he designed the set of the Broadway revival of Annie almost entirely on a computer. Although most designers today routinely use software at some point in their process, in the mid-1990s, this was relatively unusual. Foy was a pioneer in using tools like Adobe’s Photoshop and Illustrator to create textured and layered backdrops from historical photographs.
