Set model for the Broadway production of Sunday in the Park with George
Sunday in the Park with George was the first collaboration between composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim and playwright James Lapine after Sondheim and Harold Prince took a break from their longtime artistic partnership. The first act of this musical tells a mostly fictional account of the creation of French artist Georges Seurat’s famous pointillist painting, Un dimanche après-midi à l’Île de la Grande Jatte, depicting Parisians enjoying a Sunday afternoon on the banks of the River Seine. The painting is brought to vibrant life on stage by the actors, the costumes, and Straiges’s Tony Award-winning scenic design.
