The 96th Street Library is temporarily closed to facilitate improvements to the building. It is expected to reopen in August.
During this temporary closure, patrons are encouraged to use the following nearby branches:
- Yorkville Library (222 East 79th Street)
- Harry Belafonte–115th Street Library (203 West 115th Street) ♿ Fully accessible
- Bloomingdale Library (150 West 100th Street) ♿ Fully accessible
All items on hold after May 23, 2024, may be picked up at Yorkville Library beginning May 29. To request items while 96th Street is closed, please place a new request using our website and select another branch for pickup.

The 96th Street branch opened on September 1, 1905 and is one of the locations built with funds donated by Andrew Carnegie. Since then, it has become a vital center of information, learning, and recreation for a diverse community.
