About the Library
The Hunts Point Branch of The New York Public Library, designed by Carrere and Hastings and built in the architectural style of 14th-century Florence, features spacious windows and large arches of warm red brick. It was completed on July 1, 1929, as the last of the 39 branches built with Andrew Carnegie's gift. The library serves as a community hub for all ages, with an upper-level Children’s and story-hour Room and restroom, two conference rooms, and an adult floor on the first level. The branch is air-conditioned and fully accessible to people who use wheelchairs.
The Library is a committed partner to the South Bronx community and performs outreach for local schools, daycare centers, senior centers, and shelters. Among the most notable community partnerships including Community Board 2, the Hunts Point library also collaborates with local partners such as the Hunts Point Alliance for Children, The Point, and Casita Maria to provide a diverse and inclusive array of programming for all ages.
The Hunts Point library additionally serves as a repository for the Brownfield Cleanup Project North America/Pulse Plastic Site as well as the Sonero Metro City Auto Site. Use the links provided to learn more about this project, including environmental reports, exhibits, photos, and plan phases.
