About the Library
The Macomb’s Bridge Library opened in 1955, proudly named after the nearby historical landmark Macomb’s Dam Bridge. The swing bridge has been in operation since May 1985, and is the fifth oldest in New York City. The library is located on the street level, on the corner of 151 street and Adam Clayton Powell Junior Boulevard, in a landmarked public housing complex in Harlem, New York. The Harlem River Houses, constructed in 1936, was the first federally funded housing project in New York City.
We are proud to welcome you to the new location of our library, right across the street from our original space. Our new site is 3,500 square feet, and offers several new amenities, including an adult reading room, a teen section, a children’s room with skylight, a community room for programs, computers, and wi-fi access.
The Macomb’s Bridge Library serves as a community hub for all ages, and is a committed partner to the community of North Harlem. We perform outreach for local schools, daycares, shelters, and senior centers. We collaborate with local partners to provide a diverse and inclusive array of programs for all ages. We hope that this new location becomes just as beloved as the old one in the years to come.
