Moonshadow: The Voice of the Transexual Action Organization
Moonshadow: The Voice of the Transexual Action Organization was produced by the transgender activist and rock musician Angela Lynn Douglas, who also produced the arts journal Mirage. Moonshadow was emblematic of the radical and confrontational transgender activism that emerged in the late 1960s and 70s. While earlier publications, such as Virginia Prince’s magazine Transvestia, had provided forums for transgender people to discuss their shared experience, Moonshadow had a countercultural aesthetic and humor. In addition to transgender politics, it covered a range of topics that included UFOs, alternative spirituality, and rock ’n ’roll. This copy is one of more than 3,000 rare LGBT magazines, journals, and newspaper titles in the Library’s LGBT Periodicals Collection.
