Markova's partner for many years was fellow former Ballets Russes star Anton Dolin, with whom she ran the Markova-Dolin Ballet company. In 1941, Dolin joined Markova in the U.S. to direct that year's season at Jacob's Pillow, which included a performance of The Nutcracker.
